Sutherland Road / public realm

Sutherland Road has played a significant role in the industrial heritage of the Upper Lea Valley and has since transformed into a mixed-use neighborhood. This area features residential developments and a growing business community centered around Blackhorse Workshops and Uplands Business Park. Additionally, Sutherland Road is part of the newly designated Blackhorse Lane Creative Enterprise Zone, now referred to as the Blackhorse Collective.

In collaboration with the London Borough of Waltham Forest (LBWF) Highways and Regeneration teams, and with support from the Greater London Authority (GLA), we designed and implemented public realm improvements along Sutherland Road. These enhancements include a 500-meter-long sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS), the planting of 68 new trees, and a diverse array of flowering plants that support biodiversity.

Graphics applied to the industrial shutters of the ground-floor industrial units were created in collaboration with Europa and young people from the Make Stuff Club. Each flower design is inspired by the actual flowers planted along Sutherland Road.
